Portrush Heritage Group are working with the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to select the location and agree content for a Heritage Timeline. This project is currently underway and further details will be available through the App later this year. The content below will form the basis for the Timeline.

  • 1827 Work starts on new harbour. First steamer to Glasgow in 1835
  • 1855 Railway arrives with connection to Belfast
  • 1860 First Lifeboat Zelinda operational from above Harbour
  • 1883 World’s first Hydro-Electric Tramway runs from Portrush
  • 1889 Old Tom Morris sets out first 18 hole Portrush Golf Course
  • 1889 Lifeboat Robert & Agnes Blair capsizes with loss of 3 crew

  • 1951 The Open Golf Championship held at Royal Portrush & returns in 2019
